Sarath Kumarasiri was born on 14 January 1968. He  received his art education in the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, and graduated with a Degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts specializing in sculpture. He has also  been interested in expanding his knowledge to archeology. In pursing this interest he has obtained a Diploma in Archeology from the Post Graduate Institute of Archeology & Research, Sri Lanka and has been involved in many mural conservation projects. He has been working closely with the progressive artist movement that emerged in the 1990s now popularly called the 90s Trend that was instrumental in articulating radical art ideologies within the contemporary art scene in Sri Lanka. Sarath Kumarasiri’s work refer specifically to the context of human destruction, personal loss and youth anxieties of the 1980 -90s decade where the Sri Lankan political landscape was overwhelmed with violence, civil war and youth uprising.  At present, he lives and works in Horana, Sri Lanka.
