The IAW 2006 was held at the Ratnasiri Wicramanayake Training Centre facility situated in the  beautiful hills of  Hantana amides the green and lush tea estates.   . Hantana hills are better known for its mountainous eco systems in Sri Lanka and is 20 minutes away from  Kandy , a historically significant town  which was the last kingdom of Sri Lanka before the British captured Sri Lanka in 1815.

The workshop ended with an ‘Open Day’ event where all works produced at the workshop were exhibited on site.  Artists mostly used locally available material and respond to the site using the history and energies pertaining to its immediate environment.  Number of performances were held and most artists worked on site specific works. Open Day drew a large crowd from Colombo, Kandy and the surrounding areas.   The visitors on the Open Day included artists, art students from Kandy schools and the universities, art teachers, media personal and the average public. The workshop activities also became a novel experience for the workers and their families of the nearby tea estates where they were able to encounter the contemporary expressions of art.  For many who visited, it was truly and educational experience in art.

The previous Theertha Workshops were  held in 2001 and 2003.  Both workshops were held at the late eminent Sri Lankan architect Geofrey Bawa’s country estate in Lunuganga, Bentota, Sri Lanka.
