Theertha International Artists’ Residency 2006
The International Residency Program 2006 invited three local and three international visual artists to work together for 30 days and to mount and exhibition. The residency was held from 1st to 30th June 2006 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The artists participated in the Residency were:
Jamil Baloch (Pakistan), Mahmudur Rahman (Bangladesh), Rohan Amarasinghe (Sri Lanka), Sanath Kalubadana (Sri Lanka), Sumedh Rajendran (India), Thisath Thoradeniya (Sri Lanka).
Artists produced diverse work during the workshop and ‘Artists’ Talk’ was held at the Sapumal Foundation, an art foundation and museum that hold a large collection of art of the Sri Lankan Modern Movement, the 43 Group. The participating artists presented their art portfolios to an invited audience of artists and art students. An exhibition was held at the Harold Pieris Gallery, Lional Wednt Art Centre, Colombo from 28th to 30th June 2006 where large number of people attended.
The primary objective of the residency is to provide a creative environment to stimulate artistic practice by bringing artists from diverse geographical and cultural backgrounds together to experiment, dialogue and exchange artistic knowledge and experiences.
International artists residencies are also part of a series of activities undertaken by Theertha to strengthen the artists’ network that has been established in collaboration with Khoj (India), Vasl (Pakistan), Britto (Bangladesh), Sutra (Nepal) and Triangle Arts Trust (UK).
