Networks / Partners: Building partnerships and expanding the network of friends

by anurakri last modified 2009-03-10 18:25

Theertha has built partnerships with number of organizations internationally over the years as part of network building activity.

In order to open up avenues for local artists and maintain connections internationally, Theertha invests a considerable amount of its energy, resources and expertise in building up close relations with international art managers, artists, art institutions and funding agencies.

As a founding partner of the ‘Network’, a South Asia based network of artists that includes Pakistan (Vasl), India (Khoj International), Nepal (Sutra) and Bangladesh (Britto Arts Trust), Theertha has been able to actively promote and sustain the local artists mobility within the South Asia region. Theertha is also a partner of Triangle Arts Trust (UK) and  Theertha international artists workshops held regularly in Sri Lanka belongs to its workshop network spread across the world.

Internationally, Theertha has worked closely with Goethe Institute, Swedish Institute, Millegarden Museum (Stockholm), Museum of World Cultures- Frankfurt, and Museum for Far Eastern Antiquities (Stockholm) and Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in number of activities and information exchanges. Number of Exhibitions, Residency programs and possibilities for local artists to continue their art training  abroad have opened up with these partnerships and connections.

More recently, Theertha has started providing supportive role to artists and artists' groups in other Asian countries whose is attempting to intervene in their contemporary art scenes to create innovative changes. Theertha has  linked  with the Maldives National Art Gallery and independent artists to initiate art exchange between Sri Lanka and Maldives. Similarly, Theertha has connected with the artists and art groups in Cambodia (Steive Selapak artists’ group and Selapak Neari artists) to open up opportunities for  international exchanges through participating in Theertha international art programs regularly. Theertha continuously seek partnerships and collaborations with other international and regional artists' groups and organizations that would have similar interest in art exchanges.

Theertha's International Art Program has been to a great extent supported by Hivos (Netherlands) and Ford Foundation (USA) through the funding provided for artists' mobility across countries and network development.  In addition, financial support had been provided by Prince Claus Fund (Netherlands), Arts Network Asia (Singapore) and Swedish Institute for selected programs in the past.
