It will also channel the community energy to preserve and manage and also value the heritage as collective responsibility. This would also emphasis that irrespective of which ethnic/ religious root reflects these cultural and historical property it is nevertheless be viewed as part of  overall Sri Lankan heritage and therefore it is the collective responsibility of the immediate community to preserve and respect it.

Colombo Institute is located in a fairly large extent of land with much greenery. The garden space is used by the Institute for both its internal meetings and more formal public discussions. The spacious public area within the Institute is used for film shows and discussions as well. Both areas are available for partner organizations to hold events that are relevant to the interests of the Institute. The premises can be used at a nominal fee.

Library


ci-library.jpgThe Institute is in the process of developing a specialized library focused on the interests of the institute which at present include the social sciences, architecture, visual arts and spatial politics and development.  At the moment, approximately 700 volumes and 120 DVDs and VCDs are available on a reference basis in the library.

The Colombo Institute has a fully furnished guest room with a double bed, chairs, writing table and attached bathroom for the use of scholars, academics or any other persons visiting Colombo from overseas or other part of the country at the invitation of the Institute. Visitors have access to kitchen facilities, telephone facilities (during office hours) and broad band internet and email services 24 hours a day. Institute guests also have access to the library on a reference basis. Residency facilities can also be made available to visitors nominated by partner organizations for a nominal fee.
