Local Art Workshops

by anurakri last modified 2009-09-23 14:29
reed workshop 2.jpgLocal Art Workshops were started by Theertha to provide additional art practical knowledge to artists, to develop art appreciation and to simulate innovative and experimental art practices among artists.  In addition, Theertha has engaged in providing supplementary knowledge on design, techniques and methodological innovation for craft artists. More recently the local workshop program has also undertaken heritage management work that would support the revival of lost crafts in Sri Lanka.  While it has its own independent logic for undertaking activities the Local Art Workshop program mostly work in collaboration with other Theertha programs.  Unlike most other programs done by Theertha, Local Art Workshops are not a regular activity that continues annually.  Most workshops under this program are held to address a particular need that would arise at that particular context and moment.  Therefore, Local Art Workshops held by theertha are varied in its purpose and nature.  May workshops have been held as a response to requests made by an artists’ group, organization or community to get added knowledge or training in their art/ craft activities.
