Art project with children Ratnapura Kiramba Rajamaha viharaya Balangoda, Kiramba village:
A n art exhibition and Literary festival involving school children of Kiramba Purana Rajamaha Vihara Sundays school was done from 16 -17th August 2008. The participation included 50 children of age between 10 – 15 years.
The exhibition project was done as an art assignment that focused on
developing the children’s awareness of the area they live in and
presenting through art what they see every day and taken for granted in
their daily life. The exercise was encourage school children to
find and recognize the aesthetic experiences within their everyday life
and learn to accept ‘aesthetics in art’ as a relative idea and not as
fixed given thing defined only within an art history. The
workshop encouraged to recognize popular culture and its diversity
which they experience daily and express it through
art. This was done alongside another project
‘Ape Gama’ sponsored by FLICT that engaged students to re draw the
cultural map. The exhibition and Literary festival was held at
the Kiramba Purana Rajamaha Vihara. The event drew in
approximately 200 people. The event had activities such as art
competition, Singing and poetry recitals and storytelling.
